Joep Hijwegen is a street photographer based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Bright coloured lights in the dark, reflections and silhouettes in a rainy city. Joep Hijwegen’s work exudes nostalgia, love, mystery and terror.
Through the context in which Hijwegen applies colours in his work, he gives them meaning. His photographs are expressions of feelings that cannot be described with words, but can be felt through images.
Joep has won several photographic awards and has presented his work at shows such as Haute Photographie, PAN Amsterdam and KunstRAI. He also had solo exhibitions at MENDO and the Kahmann Gallery.
His work has appeared as a weekly feature in national newspaper Parool and has been featured in Volkskrant and NRC as well as international publications such as Digital Photographer, ZEIT Magazine and Leica Fotografie International.
He has published two photobooks, Controlled Coincidence and Blue Hours.
Joep is available for Street Photography Workshops.
